Two hikers recently demonstrated exceptional kindness when they encountered a frightened, injured dog on a mountain trail and ensured its safe return home. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred in Colorado’s Meyers Ranch Park on November 19. The dog appeared alone and distressed, leading the hikers to attempt to carry it down the mountain. Despite being bitten by the nervous animal, the hikers persisted in their rescue efforts.

One hiker stayed with the dog while the other sought medical assistance and notified authorities about the dog’s whereabouts. Jeffco Open Space Rangers and Animal Control Officers joined the rescue operation, with one ranger recognizing the dog, named Nova, from a lost dog poster in the park. After two months of being missing, Nova, who sustained a broken leg, was finally reunited with its owner and is now recuperating at home.

This heartwarming story, shared by the Sheriff’s Office before Thanksgiving, highlights the compassionate actions taken by the hikers and rescue team. Their dedication turned a potentially tragic situation into a joyful reunion, exemplifying the spirit of giving thanks for kindness towards animals in need.
