It’s said that animals come into our lives for a reason. For a firefighter named Mark Wojnar from Buffalo’s Ladder 2, this statement couldn’t be more true. Recently, Wojnar helped rescue a stray dog running near an expressway entrance. Along with a good samaritan, Wojnar stopped traffic and tackled the dog to bring him to safety. Afterward, he brought the dog to the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter.

According to a post from the shelter, the dog was in rough shape with very dirty, matted fur that showed he had been through a rough patch. However, Wojnar had a soft spot for the sweet dog and decided to adopt him. He stopped at the shelter and brought the dog, now named Bentley, home to live with his mother.

“We’re so thankful for his quick thinking and to his mother for opening her home to this lucky dog,” the shelter wrote on Facebook. Bentley is now doing well and settling in quickly to his new home with his “big brother” named Brody, who Wojnar also rescued from the streets in 2015.

Wojnar expressed his gratitude to the staff and volunteers at the shelter, calling them the true heroes, and to the animal control officer who helped him chase the dog down. It’s heartwarming to know that this stray dog now has a loving and forever home thanks to the kindness of his rescuers.

🐕 We are a small group of dog-loving people who decided to undertake this small project to help dogs that are abandoned in the streets. Using a % of the money raised from sales, we take care of feeding them and grant them a home to live in.
