When it comes to animal rescue, timing is crucial. Saving newborn puppies is often a ticking clock scenario, as the first few weeks of their lives are critical for their well-being and growth. In 2020, a female dog was found abandoned on the streets, and soon after, she gave birth to a litter of six puppies. However, the exhausted mama dog lacked the strength to care for her newborns, and two of them didn’t survive. The rescuers knew they had to act fast if they were going to save the remaining four.
However, gathering the dogs was challenging as the worn-down mother showed signs of aggression towards the rescuers. They learned that she was abandoned and had developed fear aggression and anxiety. Eventually, they managed to rescue the whole family, and the mama dog was given proper nutrition and water. With enough food to fill their bellies, the puppies grew bigger and opened their eyes for the first time.
The mama dog remained “skittish,” but the rescuers were glad to see her feeling much better with food of her own to eat. If the rescuers had arrived much later, who knows how many of the puppies would have survived. Life on the streets is tough for any adult dog, and this mama was probably starving before she even gave birth to her litter.
While these puppies are little miracles, it’s important to note that spaying and neutering your dogs helps control the pet population and prevent precarious situations like this one.
