In a serene yet haunting corner of Puerto Rico, Ashley Boggs found herself navigating a twisty forest road, unaware that her day was about to change in the most profound way. As she drove, a car in front of her abruptly halted and then sped away, drawing Ashley’s attention to the scene unfolding before her. A small, brown dog was darting between vehicles, desperation radiating from her tiny frame as she pleaded for help.
Ashley, devoted to her work with Miracles for Satos Rescue, felt an instant stir of concern in her heart. She quickly deduced the reason for the dog’s frantic behavior—she was a nursing mother with her puppies nearby. “I got out and noticed she was a nursing mom, so I decided to follow her,” Boggs shared with The Dodo.
With each step, Ashley followed the determined mother deeper into the woods, her heart racing with hope and anxiety. Soon enough, she spotted two innocent puppies close to the busy road, their lives precariously balanced on the edge of danger. Without a moment’s hesitation, she secured the mama dog and her little ones in her car, but her mission was not yet complete. She felt the compelling need to search for the rest of the family.
Then came the moment she had been waiting for. As she ventured into the lush, green wilderness, the faint cries of puppies began to reach her ears. It was a sound filled with both turmoil and promise. “As I traversed the forest, I scanned eagerly and began to notice little faces peering from the foliage. I was surprised by how many there were,” she recalled, emotion thickening her voice. “It was also sadness that washed over me, knowing they wouldn’t have survived if I hadn’t found them. There was no food or water left, and they were so secluded; it was joyful and sorrowful all at once. They were just so adorable.”
With her nurturing instincts guiding her, Ashley gently gathered the four remaining puppies from their hidden haven and triumphantly returned to her car. Finally, the entire family of seven was united, all together and headed toward safety at the shelter. The journey had been fraught with peril, but mother nature, it seemed, was on their side.
Once at the shelter, the mother dog—now affectionately named Goji—could hardly contain her gratitude. “She was so loving, continually kissing me and hugging me as if to say thank you,” Boggs recounted, her own heart swelling with love. Despite the fear that had once enveloped them, Goji and her puppies displayed a vibrant spirit, quickly becoming favorites among the shelter staff.
“The mom is such an angel,” Ashley said fondly. “She is incredibly loving and relishes every moment spent with visitors. Meanwhile, the puppies are bundles of joy, full of energy, forever tugging at shoelaces and inviting play.”
The happy news soon arrived: two of the puppies found loving families who provided forever homes, a testament to the resilience of this endearing family. As the days passed, it became clear that Goji and her remaining puppies were well on their way to finding their perfect matches. Though they had once faced the menacing shadows of a dark forest and a treacherous road, they would never again need to fend for themselves.
