Pet owners usually prioritize their animals’ well-being, ensuring they’re fed, sheltered, and loved. Unfortunately, not every furry friend gets such caring treatment from their human companions.

Recently, animal control officers discovered a distressed scene: a dog, a husky, was found tethered to a backyard fence with a severe wound encircling his neck. It appeared the poor pup had been left unattended for days after his owners relocated to another state.

Curtis Swan, 27, and Aaleyah Clay, 29, reportedly informed a neighbor of their move from Roselle, New Jersey, to Sandy Springs, Georgia, leaving their husky behind with plans to retrieve him later. This neglectful act led to charges of animal cruelty against them, potentially resulting in a five-year prison sentence upon conviction.

The abandoned dog was rescued and taken to the Newark branch of the Associated Humane Societies of New Jersey. Following treatment for his injuries, the husky, now named Carter by the shelter, was relocated to a South Jersey animal shelter, where he’s recuperating well.

In a heartening update shared by the rescue, Carter receives daily laser therapy for his neck wound and is receiving medication for pain and infection. Despite the ordeal, he’s described as a sweet, cheerful, and friendly dog.

As the legal proceedings against his former owners unfold, ongoing updates about Carter’s progress and recovery will be provided.
