(APA!) walked through the shelter doors, their mission clear—to rescue animals in danger and provide them with a second chance at life. Spotting Darla cowering in the wheelbarrow, the team felt an immediate pull towards her. “We had to pull her, we had to save her,” said Jordana Moerbe, APA!’s national shelter support director. “We hope that she’s able to come out of her shell and be the happy puppy she deserves to be. It’s what every one of the pets in the shelter deserves, and that’s what we’re working so hard for.”

Word spread rapidly among their rescue partners, and soon Darla was set to embark on a new adventure with Mile High Lab Rescue in Denver, Colorado. Despite her fears, the team knew that with sufficient time and an abundance of love, her transformation could begin. Here was a dog on the brink of losing everything, now poised to discover the beauty of life.
Today, Darla is thriving in her foster home, slowly shedding her fears and learning the joyful ways of being a dog. She almost lost her life that day, yet instead, she gained something infinitely more valuable—a family who cherishes her and the promise of a future filled with love, play, and safety.
