Every dog deserves a loving forever home, but for some, the journey takes a little longer. Jax, a big-hearted dog, experienced just that. After arriving at the Regina Humane Society, it was clear Jax had endured a tough life on the streets. His thin frame and hunger spoke volumes about the challenges he had faced.

Bill Thorn, the shelter’s director, shared, “He was very thin and hungry when he arrived, so it looked like he’d been on his own for a while. We made sure he got all the care he needed.”

Jax’s health improved, and he was soon ready for adoption. Unfortunately, he developed pneumonia and had to undergo treatment, delaying his search for a forever home. Despite his affectionate nature, finding Jax a family wasn’t easy. When potential adopters approached his kennel, Jax’s frustration at being behind bars made him bark and growl, scaring off visitors. The staff explained this behavior was just “barrier frustration” and not aggression, but first impressions mattered.

To help Jax, the shelter moved him to the front reception area, allowing him more interaction with visitors. Slowly, his true sweet personality began to shine. Staff members loved him, but months passed with no adoption.
Finally, the perfect match came. A man experienced with larger dogs met Jax, and the bond was instant. Jax had finally found his person.

On the day Jax left the shelter, it was an emotional moment for everyone. Before heading to his new home, Jax went around the room, giving goodbye kisses to every staff member who had cared for him. The shelter shared this heartwarming moment, writing, “It was a tearfully happy Friday when our boy Jax said goodbye to each person in the room. It was a beautiful way to end his time with us.”

Though Jax’s journey was long, it led him to the right home. He now visits the shelter with his new dad, radiating happiness. As Thorn put it, “It took time, but we found the right person for Jax, and that’s what really matters.”
