Animal advocates reached out to Theresa Sumpter, founder of the Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue, after a disturbing Facebook post caught their attention. The post showed two puppies being held by the scruff of their necks, and at least one comment expressed interest in using them for dogfighting. Sumpter and a colleague immediately set out to purchase the puppies to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands. They contacted the seller and bought the pups for $150 the next morning, making sure the seller knew that they were from a rescue group. The puppies, named Hazel and Gretel, are now safe and in the loving care of the Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue. Sumpter expressed outrage that the puppies were put in danger and stated that the group will make sure the seller is famous for all the wrong reasons if they post something similar again. Although no one has been charged, followers of the rescue have called on the police department to find and punish those who expressed interest in using the puppies for fighting. The article concludes by emphasizing that the most important thing is that Hazel and Gretel can now look forward to a future with loving families.
