After 11 long years of waiting in a shelter, Vanessa, a senior pit bull, has finally found her forever home. Recently, a former adopter from the same shelter stepped forward to provide Vanessa with the loving home she deserves.
Vanessa’s journey began in 2012 when she was surrendered by her owners as they moved away, leaving her unwanted. She found refuge at Villalobos Rescue Center in Louisiana, where she spent most of her life. Vanessa possessed all the traits people desire in a dog: crate trained, well-behaved, good with other dogs, and house-ready. Despite her qualities, no one ever noticed her or applied to adopt her.
Tia Torres of Villalobos Rescue Center mentioned that it’s often challenging to determine why some dogs get overlooked while others find homes. Vanessa’s case was not about being undesirable; she simply never caught the right person’s attention. Many dogs face this fate, and it’s a heartbreaking reality of shelter life. It’s a reminder of the importance of giving these overlooked dogs a chance.
Vanessa’s fortunes changed when a former adopter from the same shelter decided to provide her with a loving home. Having previously adopted two dogs from the shelter who had since passed away, this compassionate adopter chose to open their heart to Vanessa. Now, after 11 years, Vanessa is finally heading to her forever home in Delaware, and her care is supported through VRC’s senior dog program.
