Cricket, a young Staffordshire Bull Terrier, endured a challenging start. At just six months old, she was abandoned from a moving vehicle. Her fortunes changed when Josh, a military veteran known for rescuing Detroit’s fighting dogs, learned of her plight. Cricket had been held captive in a cage without sunlight for 18 months by a man who had initially found her. Josh offered him a choice: surrender Cricket voluntarily or face legal consequences. Opting for the former, the man handed Cricket over to Josh, marking a new beginning for both.

Upon her rescue, Josh celebrated Cricket’s freedom with ice cream and her first romp in an open field. Multiple baths were needed to cleanse her of the filth from her caged existence. Under Josh’s care, Cricket flourished, her coat becoming shiny and her life filled with adventure.

Josh, who suffers from PTSD and a disability, found in Cricket not only a pet but a service dog. She was trained to assist with daily tasks and emotional support, strengthening their bond. Despite her traumatic history, Cricket exudes joy and warmth, even learning to wave to children.

Previously intended to be a protection dog, Cricket’s gentle nature proved her unsuitable for such a role. Instead, she thrives in assisting Josh with chores and providing stability as he walks. Cricket’s presence is a comfort to Josh, particularly in crowded settings.

Known fondly as a “blanket dog,” Cricket loves to snuggle under blankets, showing affection even in warmth. Her difficult past behind her, Cricket now leads a joyful and purposeful life as Josh’s service dog.
