When Montequlla, the beloved tabby cat, went missing during his family’s house move in Denver, Colorado, it led to an unexpected adventure. Unbeknownst to both Montequlla and his family, his chosen hiding spot inside a recliner was inadvertently included in the items donated to a local thrift store.

The discovery of Montequlla’s unexpected journey came to light when employees at the Denver Arc Thrift Store stumbled upon the trapped feline inside the recliner. Concerned for the cat’s well-being, they promptly reached out to Denver Animal Protection (DAP) for assistance, initiating a heartening tale of reunion.

Responding swiftly to the call, DAP Officer Jenna Humphreys arrived at the thrift store and found a furry friend in need. Describing the scene, Humphreys recounted hearing muffled meows emanating from the chair, confirming Montequlla’s precarious situation. Despite the cat’s amiable nature, extricating him from the recliner proved challenging. With gentle coaxing and aid, Montequlla was safely liberated and taken under Humphreys’ care.

Meanwhile, Montequlla’s family, amidst the chaos of the move, discovered their beloved pet was missing. Their search within the nearly vacated home proved futile, prompting a realization that led them to the thrift store, suspecting Montequlla’s unsuspected relocation.

Upon their arrival, they found that Humphreys had already intervened and retrieved Montequlla. Gratefully, the family was swiftly reunited with their cherished pet, expressing immense relief at his safe return.

Humphreys highlighted the natural tendency for animals to seek refuge during stressful situations, emphasizing Montequlla’s inadvertent choice of the donated recliner. The Denver Animal Shelter shared the heartwarming reunion on social media, expressing gratitude to all involved parties for ensuring the safe return of this beloved feline.

The heartening conclusion to Montequlla’s unexpected journey serves as a reminder of the importance of microchipping pets and the tireless efforts of animal welfare organizations in reuniting lost animals with their families.
