It was a heart-wrenching 764 days of separation for Bill Ballato, a disabled veteran, and his beloved Beagle-mix, Bosco. Bosco, nine years old at the time, had mysteriously gone missing from their Westerly, Rhode Island home. Despite tireless efforts, including missing posters and personal inquiries, Bill couldn’t find a trace of his four-legged friend, who had tragically been hit by a car.
Months turned into years, and Bill, forced to relocate to Lafayette, Colorado, thought he might never see Bosco again. However, a glimmer of hope emerged when Rhode Island residents recognized Bosco from the missing posters, even though two years had elapsed since his disappearance.
Living as a street dog had made Bosco wary of people, but the intervention of Sheilah Graham, a Department of Homeland Security employee experienced in tracking down lost pets, changed everything. She used a trap filled with Bosco’s favorite foods to capture him successfully.
Knowing that Bill couldn’t travel due to his disability and that Bosco wouldn’t be allowed on planes, Sheilah embarked on a remarkable self-funded journey of 2,000 miles in just 36 hours to reunite the pair. Battling through two snowstorms, she ensured Bosco was safe and sound.
When Bill and Bosco finally locked eyes again after 764 days, Bill was understandably anxious, fearing that his senior dog might not recognize him. However, a simple call of “Dude” from Bill’s lips worked like magic. Bosco realized he was back with his loving dad.
The joyous reunion was marked by Bosco’s ecstatic reunion with his old toys and his puppy brother. Sheilah’s selfless act of kindness brought these two best friends back together, and it’s one of the most heartwarming reunions ever captured on video.
