Recently, the Ohio Department mourned the loss of this remarkable four-legged officer, Tommy, who valiantly partnered with Jeremy Berger, an officer from the Department of National Resources. After battling an aggressive form of incurable cancer, Tommy faced immense pain, rendering him unable to perform even the most basic tasks, leading Jeremy to make the heart-wrenching decision to euthanize his loyal companion.
In recognition of Tommy’s unwavering commitment and years of service, law enforcement agencies across Ohio congregated, accompanied by their K9 companions, to pay their respects to this exceptional canine officer. Gathered outside the Blanchard Valley Veterinary Clinic, emotions ran high as officers, with their dogs by their sides, rendered a poignant salute to honor Tommy’s legacy. The solemn moment was particularly poignant for Jeremy and his family, who bid an emotional farewell to their beloved K9 partner.
The final moments with Tommy were deeply emotional, marked by a radio broadcast bidding farewell to the faithful companion: “You were a faithful partner to 3280, Officer Tommy. Thank you for being a good boy and protecting your partner and the citizens of Ohio. Your watch has now ended. Rest well. You are gone, but never forgotten.”
