A dog was discovered waiting on a bridge several days after its owner tragically took his own life.
Dogs are known for their unwavering loyalty, often staying close to their owner’s final resting places or continuing to visit their graves. However, this particular tale is especially poignant: the dog was found at the exact location where its owner had died by suicide.
The dog was located on the Yangtze Bridge in Wuhan, China. A local named Xu found the forlorn animal and posted pictures on social media. Initially attempting to adopt the dog himself, Xu learned from nearby workers that a man had jumped from the bridge on May 30, leading him to realize the dog was waiting for its late owner.
“I wanted to rescue it, but it was too loyal to leave,” Mr. Xu explained to the Chutian Metropolis Daily.
Refusing food and water, the dog simply gazed out from the railing, seemingly lost and bewildered.
After Xu’s social media post, Du Fan, director of the Wuhan Small Animal Protection Association, successfully rescued the dog. Surveillance footage verified that the dog’s owner had indeed jumped from the bridge. The association is now hopeful to find a caring new home for the dog.
