Two years ago, Mary and her siblings were born in a shelter, requiring bottle-feeding and care. After eight weeks, they were adopted by loving families through a meticulous application process. However, their story took an unexpected turn when one of the dogs found her way back to a shelter a year and a half later.
Terri, the founder of Foxy and the Hounds Rescue, received the disheartening call about Mary’s return. The poor pup had visible scars, flystrike on her ears, and a chewed tail, leaving her defeated. It was a painful reminder that not all adoptive families provide the love and care these animals deserve.
Fortunately, Mary’s luck changed when she was reunited with the woman who had cared for her and nourished her from a bottle. She was then placed in a foster home with Doug and his wife, Michelle. Initially, Doug was adamant about not getting too attached, declaring that Mary was just a foster. However, fate had different plans, as their family had already welcomed two dogs who started as fosters and became permanent members.
Mary seamlessly integrated into their family, forging a deep bond with Doug. His desire to adopt her became evident, leading his wife to orchestrate a heartwarming surprise for Christmas. She informed the shelter of their decision and presented Doug with a gift—a dog tag engraved with Mary’s name and their address.
