Losing a beloved pet can be a devastating experience, especially when it happens suddenly. That’s what happened to Natalie Langlois when her dog Mickey passed away from a rare neurological disease. Trying to cope with the loss and help her other dog TJ Wiggles through his grief, Natalie received a call from her groomer about an elderly Shih Tzu that had been terribly neglected and surrendered to the shelter at the age of 12.
Natalie immediately fell in love with the spunky little dog, despite her diseased eyes being completely covered with cataracts and her matted fur making it difficult for her to walk. She arranged to foster her until her stray hold was up, and took her home. The new addition to the family, Miss Trudy Magoo, took over immediately, and TJ was sweet to her as she settled in.
It quickly became apparent that Miss Trudy needed help with her eyes, and after consulting with an eye specialist, Natalie arranged to have them removed. Since then, the blind Shih Tzu has blossomed into a playful, confident girl who walks alongside her big brother TJ on their daily off-leash walks.
People they meet are amazed by Miss Trudy’s ability to get around, despite her lack of eyesight. Natalie and Miss Trudy even visit senior centers to talk about caring for aging pets, and Miss Trudy visits each and every member of the audience.
Through Miss Trudy’s story, Natalie hopes to inspire others to consider adopting a special needs or senior dog. While Natalie still misses Mickey, the love and joy that Miss Trudy brings into her life have helped heal her heart.
