During a sweltering 87-degree day in Atlanta, Georgia, Deputy Earl Hanners received a report about a 10-week-old puppy left in a box by the roadside.

A concerned passerby had come across the box, opened it to find the puppy, and placed it beside the box for comfort, providing it water before alerting authorities.

At that moment, Officer Hanners was engaged in handling a car accident. However, another officer initially attended the scene with the puppy. As soon as Earl was available, he personally went to see to the puppy, finding it still beside the box.

Deciding against calling animal control, Hanners opted to take the puppy, now named Bridget, to a veterinarian and then to his home.

He ensured Bridget rested and recuperated from the heat, offering her food and water, and then contacting a vet.

This interaction led to a heartfelt decision by Earl to adopt Bridget permanently.

This act of kindness wasn’t new for Hanners, who has a history of fostering dogs through a local rescue group, Hounds in Pounds, and already has eight rescued Pugs at home.

Prior to introducing Bridget to his other dogs, he ensured she received a thorough check-up and vaccinations.

Now, Bridget is thriving in a loving and joyous environment, fitting in seamlessly with Earl’s canine family.

While the person responsible for abandoning Bridget remains unidentified, she now enjoys a secure and affectionate forever home, all thanks to Deputy Earl Hanners’ compassionate actions.
