John, a volunteer for a rescue group, was contacted about a dog in dire need of veterinary care. The pup, Nova, was suffering from a puzzling disease that left her face and underside in terrible condition. John, who also founded Ruff Riders Animal Transport, quickly picked her up and brought her to the animal clinic.
The vet at the clinic was puzzled by Nova’s condition and couldn’t identify the cause of her suffering. Despite trying several different medications, none seemed to work. John turned to social media to crowdfund donations for Nova’s care, which was also complicated by her emaciation.
With the help of donations, Nova was able to see a dermatology specialist who finally diagnosed her with lupus after four months of testing. John was shocked to learn that Nova’s condition was triggered by the sun, which was unfortunate given how much time he had spent with her outdoors to improve her health.
However, with the proper treatment and care, Nova made an incredible transformation. She went from a dog in grave condition to a happy and healthy puppy. Thanks to the kindness of strangers and the dedication of her rescuer, Nova’s story is one of hope and resilience.
