Not all dogs are fortunate enough to begin their lives in a warm, loving home. For Cider, a Pit Bull with a troubled past involving illegal dog fighting, life started harshly. Rescued by the Pennsylvania SPCA in Philadelphia, Cider faced severe challenges but has since recovered physically and emotionally with the shelter staff’s help. However, more than two years post-rescue, he still waits for a family to call his own.

Cider’s happiness shines through even within the shelter’s confines. Lindsey King, the shelter’s volunteer program manager, has developed a close relationship with him. Seeing the impact of prolonged shelter life on Cider, King took him to a local park to brighten his spirits. “To give him a much-needed break, Cider enjoyed a wonderful day outside, filled with exploration and affection,” the shelter conveyed in a Facebook post.

Cider’s delight was evident as he ran freely and joyfully jumped into King’s arms during his outing. However, returning to the shelter dampened the day’s happiness. “We hope all his days could be as joyful as this one,” the shelter noted, expressing a longing for Cider to find his perfect home. King recognized Cider’s tough past and the potential need for him to adjust to a new home but reassured that he would offer immense love and loyalty to his future family.

While no one has adopted Cider yet, the shelter remains optimistic. “We believe Cider’s ideal family is out there,” they stated. Cider, too, keeps hoping for the day he can permanently exchange the shelter for a loving home where every day is as joyful as his park visit.
