A heartwarming story of a dog rescue in Detroit has touched many people’s hearts. The abandoned German Shepherd, known as Nikki, was seen wandering around with her favorite stuffed toy after her owner passed away. Several animal rescue groups, including It Is Pawzable Dog Training, South Lyon Murphy Lost Animal Recovery, Sugar Mutts Dog Grooming, and Almost Home Animal Rescue, came together to find Nikki and provide her with the necessary care.
After posting Nikki’s story online and showing photos of her to nearby residents, a neighbor who had been feeding her while she was homeless is now working with the rescues to find her a forever home. Unfortunately, Nikki is heartworm positive, and she will need to undergo four weeks of treatment.
Katrina Weaver, the owner of It Is Pawzable Dog Training, emphasized the importance of preventing heartworms by giving dogs a pill every month. However, Nikki’s condition now requires injections, which are painful, and she will need to stay calm and only go for leash walks for some time.
Kristina Thompson, the owner of Sugar Mutts Grooming, was among the people who came forward to help Nikki. She said that her business is happy to help and that the story of Nikki and her stuffed toy walking around was so sad. They are now making sure that Nikki is ready to go to her foster home as soon as she receives proper care.
The animal workers are doing their best to ensure that Nikki gets the care she needs to recover fully. Almost Home Animal Rescue is collecting donations to pay for her treatment and care, and anyone interested can contribute by clicking the link to the donation page.
