Two weeks of relentless searching had left dog rescuers Suzette Hall and Rosario Ortiz feeling drained. Each evening, they returned home empty-handed, yet the haunting pictures of a lost, shaggy pup wandering the streets of Los Angeles County fueled their efforts. Her plight was palpable, reigniting their determination to save her from a fate of solitude.
This poor pup had been on her own for at least a month, navigating busy roads filled with dangers, all while eluding the kindness of strangers. As days turned into weeks, her once bright light-colored fur dulled and became matted, a testament to her struggles. Even on the hottest days, her thick coat offered no relief, and fear kept her from accepting help or even a drop of water from passersby.

Eager and prepared, she jumped into action, but the mission to rescue this terrified pup proved trickier than anticipated. Day after day, Hall and Ortiz returned to their car empty-handed, facing an elusive dog who seemed to vanish into thin air.
Describing the frustration, Hall remarked, “She would come close…and then vanish like Houdini for days at a time. One moment she was there…the next, she was gone.” Despite this, their hope remained undeterred as they set up humane dog traps and vowed to return each day until she was safely in their arms.
Finally, a turning point arrived two weeks into their search when they spotted her slipping into an abandoned building nearby. The rescuers wasted no time; they hurriedly prepared to block her escape while crawling through a jagged opening to get close enough to the pup they initially thought was a boy.
With great care and patience, they cornered the frightened dog and secured a slip lead around her neck. Quickly, she was brought to their car and rushed to Camino Pet Hospital, where the truth about her identity was finally revealed. “She was so incredibly matted that we honestly thought she was a boy,” Hall shared. “But once she was groomed, we discovered this sweet little soul was actually a girl.”
After a thorough bath and a much-needed shave, the relief on the pup’s face was unmistakable. The long month of searching for someone to notice her was finally over; she was receiving the love and attention she had yearned for. Hall decided to name her Reject, a poignant reminder of the harsh world that had once overlooked her, but her current reality was vastly different.
“She is just as cute as can be—and finally living the life she always deserved,” Hall expressed with a smile. Everyone who meets Reject inevitably falls in love with her charm.
