For a fleeting moment, Bella experienced the warmth of a family. Unfortunately, she was returned because she struggled with socializing with other dogs. The journey to healing has been a challenging one, but the team at the shelter recognized her potential. “Bella is a little anxious around other dogs and missed out on vital socialization during her crucial developmental months,” shared Hannah Hawkins, the behavior and welfare advisor at the Centre. “Initially, she was quite frustrated, but after months of dedicated training, we are witnessing her gradual improvement.”
Although Bella is learning to embrace companionship with her canine peers, her heart belongs to humans. Every chance she gets to interact with people shines a light in her eyes, and she leans into those moments, yearning for their affection. Despite the staff’s best efforts to spend quality time with her, Bella often finds herself alone in her kennel, seeking comfort from her beloved plush toys.
“Bella has formed a special bond with her cuddly toys, particularly her cherished Winnie the Pooh, whom she snuggles with every night,” Hannah notes. Her kennel is filled with an array of cuddly companions, each one a source of comfort during her lonely moments. The sight of Bella surrounded by her toys is both heartwarming and heartbreaking, as everyone hopes this is merely a temporary arrangement until her forever home finds her.
Bella dreams of a family that is ready to embrace her uniqueness. An adult-only household with no other pets would be ideal for her, where someone can shower her with love and take the time to nurture her ongoing training.
