In an extraordinary display of maternal instinct, a brave mother dog sought help at a veterinary clinic in Istanbul, Turkey, determined to ensure her fragile puppies received the care they desperately needed. Her actions led her family to safety and healing at the Beylikduzu Alfa Veterinary Clinic, showcasing the profound bond between a mother and her young, as well as the compassion of those willing to step in and help.
Earlier this week, a passerby found a weak and sick puppy on the street and brought it to the clinic. As the veterinary team worked tirelessly to stabilize the pup, their day took an unexpected turn. The mother dog appeared at the clinic entrance, carrying another puppy gently in her mouth.
“We were shocked when we saw her,” veterinarian Baturay Oğan told The Dodo. “At first, we thought the puppy was no longer alive, but when we examined him, we realized his heart was still beating, though very slowly.”
The clinic staff immediately began treating the second puppy, allowing the anxious mother to stay close. Oğan explained that the mother dog had likely been separated from her litter after being taken for spaying. Without her warmth, her puppies had become dangerously weak. Realizing one of her pups had been brought to the clinic, the mother must have followed the trail, determined to save the rest.
Tragically, when she later returned with a third puppy, it was too late to save the little one. Despite the heartbreaking loss, her remarkable efforts ensured the survival of her remaining puppies.
“The puppies are healthy now,” Oğan shared. “The mother is also recovering. She’s weak, but we’re feeding her well. Both she and her pups are staying with us.”
This powerful story of love and perseverance has touched countless hearts. Thanks to the mother’s courage and the dedication of the veterinary team, she and her surviving puppies now have a second chance at life together.
