In the upcoming episode of The Yorkshire Vet, a heartwarming tale unfolds as Lulu, a seven-month-old wolfhound puppy, earns the title of Britain’s luckiest dog after a harrowing accident near Huddersfield.
The incident occurred when Lulu, accompanied by her owner Niki Littlewood, was startled by other dogs while strolling along a canal path. In a panic, she bolted, prompting a frantic search that lasted over an hour. Desperate and fearing the worst, Niki turned to social media for help. Fortunately, they soon heard Lulu’s cries for help emanating from an unexpected location.
Lulu had become wedged in a narrow gap within a dry stone wall, a perilous situation compounded by the wall’s depth of about five feet. She lay on her back, her entire body stretched along the tight space, leaving Niki and the rescuers baffled about how to extricate her.

Niki’s theory is that Lulu instinctively tried to return home but found the gates to her property closed. Attempting to jump a neighboring fence, she subsequently aimed for a tall wall, missed her landing, and tumbled backward, rendering her unconscious for over an hour.
In a race against time, Niki reached out to Rohin Aojula, a vet from Donaldson’s Vets Emergency Hospital in Huddersfield. Rohin, accompanied by vet nurse Beth Croxford, arrived promptly to tackle this extraordinary challenge. Lulu’s precarious position raised concerns of a potential broken back, with the added risk of a wall collapse.
Rohin, in a bid to relax the panic-stricken Lulu, administered a sedative into her muscles, all while being closely documented by Channel 5’s The Yorkshire Vet crew.
Builders Scott Taylor, Paul Staples, and Paul Watson were summoned to dismantle the wall once the sedative took effect, ensuring a careful operation aligned with Lulu’s safety.
Once freed, Lulu was immediately rushed to the veterinary hospital for a comprehensive assessment. Astonishingly, despite her nightmarish entrapment, she emerged with only minor cuts and was happily wagging her tail. A thorough checkup and an overnight stay were all she required.

Describing her as Britain’s luckiest dog, Rohin marveled at Lulu’s remarkable fortune, considering her size and the severity of the accident. Niki expressed her profound gratitude to Rohin, his team, and the builders for their combined efforts in saving Lulu’s life. Lulu’s miraculous rescue will be showcased in an episode of The Yorkshire Vet on September 5, 2023, at 8 pm on Channel 5. Don’t miss this inspiring story of resilience and luck.
