Cats and dogs, despite their perceived differences, can form remarkable bonds filled with love and compassion. One heartwarming example of this inter-species friendship can be witnessed at the Sunshine Animal Refuge Agadir (SARA), where Tam, a blind and long-time resident, finds solace and care in the company of cats.
Tam’s Journey at SARA
Tam has been a part of SARA, along with his sister Daccia, for nearly nine years. What sets Tam apart is his unique condition – he suffers from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), a rare connective tissue disorder. EDS brings skin hyperextensibility, joint laxity, skin and vessel fragility, and slow wound healing. Adding to his challenges, Tam has been blind since birth, relying on his keen sense of smell and cautious movements.
While other puppies from his litter found homes, Tam and Daccia, needing extra care, found a permanent sanctuary at the shelter.
Tam’s Special Bond with Feline Friends
What makes Tam’s story truly heartening is his close relationship with the resident cats at SARA. These feline companions offer Tam a level of care and affection that transcends species boundaries.
Tam’s unique bond with these cats is evident in their daily interactions. He shares his nights with two feline friends, cuddling together as they sleep. When Tam is awake, the cats demonstrate their understanding by rubbing against him, reassuring him of their presence.
The volunteers at the shelter often witness these enchanting moments where cats provide Tam with soothing massages and cuddles, easing his discomfort and making him feel cherished. For Tam, the cats are not just companions; they are his source of comfort and love.
